Field Dispatch · Aurora A neighbouring note · just down Yonge

Bird boarding in Aurora.

For our neighbours just south along Yonge Street — quiet bird sitting and overnight boarding from a Newmarket studio, two households at a time, with a photo letter every day.

Aurora sits immediately south of us, the next town down Yonge Street, and it's close enough that the two communities share a school district, a hospital, and half their grocery runs. It's a town with real character — the heritage shops and the Aurora Cultural Centre around Yonge and Wellington, the wooded trails of the Aurora Community Arboretum, the McKenzie Marsh boardwalk where herons stalk the shallows. From the leafy older streets of Aurora Heights to the newer subdivisions out toward Bayview and Leslie, it's a town that prizes its green space and its quiet, tree-lined feel.

For Aurora bird owners, the nearest genuinely small boarding option is often just over the town line in Newmarket — which is us. We're a short, simple drive north up Yonge or Bayview, and many Aurora households already make that trip routinely. The Aurora GO station on the south side of town is a hub for commuters heading into the city, and we see a steady stream of Aurora owners who travel for work and need their bird somewhere calmer than a kennel while they're gone.

What we offer is the opposite of a warehouse. We take a maximum of two households' birds at a time into a small sunlit studio room — no dog, no chatter TV, just morning light and a steady routine. For an Aurora parrot used to a quiet home off Bathurst or near Sheppard's Bush, that consistency is the whole difference between a bird that eats and chats through the stay and one that sulks in the corner.

We keep your bird's world the way you set it. The food you send is what we feed, on your schedule; the wake and cover times you keep are the ones we keep. And every day you're away, you get a photo letter — a few honest pictures and a plain paragraph about how your bird is doing. For an Aurora family heading off on a trip, a short drive north buys you a sitter who actually watches your bird, and sends you the proof daily.
